Workshops

The Teater Štrik is weaving its web across the globe. Gavin Glover (Glasgow, Scotland), Wibi Wicaksana (Bali, Indonesia), and Rebekah Wild (Vienna, Austria) have all become entangled in the knot. Who is next?

Workshop Puppet Parkour with Tea Kovše

Puppet Parkour (Tea Kovše)

PUPPET PARKOUR* is the technique of animating wooden table puppets in an urban setting. Its aim is to explore different ways of animating and using puppets, while being aware of the surrounding space. In this introductory course, participants will acquaint themselves with and explore:

  • The basics of animating puppet (table top puppets).
  • Various settings for puppet animation (stage, hallway, stairs, street).
  • Overcoming obstacles by animating puppets = PUPPET PARKOUR

* Parkour is a French training discipline of running from one point to another while overcoming obstacles in the fastest and most efficient way possible.

PUPPET TECHNOLOGY

During the workshops, you will use purposefully designed puppets. We have adapted the tabletop puppet technique to an urban environment and created a puppet technology specifically for using puppets in public spaces. The puppets are taller (70 cm) than traditional wooden tabletop puppets, making them better suited for performances in public settings.

Workshop Lambe Lambe with Rebekah Wild

Lambe Lambe (Rebekah Wild)

On two weekends in the fall of 2024, we had the rare opportunity to work on developing a small show of 3 to 5 minutes for an individual audience member. Under the expert guidance of Rebekah Wild, we acquired the necessary artistic and practical skills.

Theater for One, Solo Theater, or Lambe Lambe, is about creating a stage for just one spectator. We learned the basics of object theater, explored character creation, and brought real magic to the small stages we built. With a focus on nonverbal expression, we delved into the visual and emotional potential of objects.

It was an incredibly enriching workshop that—like Lambe Lambe theater itself—created poetic experiences in an intimate setting and expanded our imagination.

Workshop Balinese Mask Dance with Wibi Wicaksana

Balinese Mask Dance (with Wibi Wicaksana)

In the spring of 2023, Balinese dancer I Putu Wibi Wicaksana visited us. The award-winning artist, who has been dancing since childhood and has performed at the royal palace of Ubud, presented his new piece Tjangkep Dances and led a workshop in Klagenfurt.

Wicaksana, who combines traditional and contemporary dance, taught the fundamentals of Balinese dance and mask dance in his three-day workshop. This dance style, deeply rooted in ceremony and ritual, is an artform that reflects life itself. We explored the dynamic, stylized movements and discovered how Balinese dance connects body and mind. The energy of the dance became tangible, making it a truly enriching experience.

Workshop Micro Cinema Theater with Gavin Glover

Micro Cinema ThEater (with Gavin Glover)

As part of a multi-day workshop in May 2023, Gavin Glover introduced us to the fascinating world of microcinema theater. Specializing in the dark and eerie aspects of puppet theater, he brought a wealth of experience as a video artist, director, filmmaker, and puppeteer, which he generously shared with us.

The workshop provided us with technical fundamentals and guided us dramaturgically through the processes. This allowed us to unleash our creativity without getting lost in the technical details. Over the course of three days, we explored the diverse possibilities of microcinema theater and presented our improvisations to a small audience at the end of each day.

It was an inspiring journey into an extraordinary world of theater.
